A pioneer in pet-friendly tourism, Barcelona is the perfect destination for those of you looking to enjoy a well-deserved break in the sunshine with your favourite four-legged friends. Alongside the already numerous dog-friendly places that welcome canine visitors throughout the city, you can also try out a Barcelona dog beach on your next visit. Playa del Llevant in Barcelona is the perfect refuge for enjoying a dip in the cooling waters with your dog and a little play in the sand.
Barcelona’s dog beach is a space of around 1,200 square metres on Playa del Llevant, between Fòrum and Nova Mar Bella, which welcomes dogs during the peak season until 25 September, when once again animals are prohibited. The area is secured by a one-metre fence, some rocks and the sea itself. It offers everything you could ever need for a day at the beach with your pooches, including showers and fountains for dogs, in addition to the usual beach facilities, such as showers, litter bins and cleaning services. The enclosure can be accessed via a wooden walkway. Before heading down to the beach, we recommend you check out the rules and respect other beachgoers.
This pilot test for the city is part of a network of dog-friendly beaches in the region. In total, 4 beaches are allowing dogs this summer in Barcelona.
Sitges: Cala Vallcarca
This was the first beach in the region to allow dogs. With 60 metres by 15 of sand, it isn’t usually thought of as one of the best beaches in Barcelona, owing to its proximity to a cement factory and a lack of amenities, but it is certainly one of the most popular for animal lovers.
Dog-friendly beaches: Sant Pol de Mar, Playa Les Banyeretes
For the first time, Les Banyeretes beach is to welcome dogs this summer. Three hundred metres of sand and rocks are on offer for enjoying a day at the beach with your best, most faithful companion!
Cubelles: Playa Les Salines
On Les Salines beach, 450 metres of space has been designated dog-friendly this summer.
