The beaches and coves in and around Barcelona are well-known for their stunning landscapes, beautiful waters and golden sands, which is what makes the region one of the three autonomous communities in Spain with the highest number of blue flags.
Here, we’re going to introduce you to four of the best beaches near Barcelona that are sure to guarantee a great summer’s day out:
Beaches near Barcelona: Giverola
Easily reachable by car, the drive to the beach takes you through an urbanisation, which makes access quick and easy.
Found between Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Tossa de Mar, this charming cove is nestled between rocks, ideal for a windier day, since you’ll be sheltered from the spray.
Cala Sant Francesc
Also known as Cala Bona, a beautiful cove with crystal-clear waters found just 2 kilometres from Blanes.
There are several great beach coves in the area, all of them highly recommended, but Cala Sant Francesc is certainly worthy of its greater fame. We recommend you try your hand at some snorkelling through the transparent waters, where you’ll see the ocean floor even from a long way away.
Aiguablava, beaches near Barcelona
Situated to the south of Begur, near Puerto de Fornells, this is one of the few fine-sandy beaches on the Costa Brava. Its name gives you a good idea of what you’ll find here – if you’re familiar with the local lingo – literally meaning high-quality and totally transparent waters.
There’s also plenty of parking, so you won’t have any trouble arriving by car. We recommend you take a few moments before heading down to the cove to appreciate the wonderful views from Cap de Begur.
Cala Jugadora
The Cap de Creus area is known for offering a number of coves sheltering beach-goers from the wind. Jugadora Cove is a natural enclave, with islets and crystal-clear waters in abundance. It’s the perfect spot for snorkelling between the recesses of the rocks, where you’ll also find plenty of stunning fish you can see up close and personal thanks to the transparent waters.
